Meg writes to us: I got back from an 8 day whirlwind adventure last night; first to Chicago for four road criterion races and then to New York City for ParaNationals.
It was a successful trip, yet I’m pleased to be home!! I leave tomorrow afternoon for a 5 day trip to London, England. As a member of the Para National Team, I will be racing on the 2012 Olympic course. Should be a grand time!!
Thanks for your support! Here’s a picture of me right after the finish in NYC.
In the picture, I’m smiling though it was a horrible race… I don’t know if I can say that, since I still finished well. Regardless, my legs cramped as I ran from the water to my bike. I’ve never been in so much pain during a sporting event.
Thankfully, I was the first female out of the water. I had the time to try to stretch out my legs before I got on the bike. Unfortunately, that lead quickly disappeared. Soon after getting on my bike, I had to get off and lay on the ground. I laid there and cried until the cramping calmed down. When I got back on, I still couldn’t get my right leg to do a full pedal stroke. I unclipped and pedaled only with my left leg and coasted at every opportunity. After 10k of this misery, both legs settled down enough for me to pedal with force. I knew that if I dug deep, I might be able to make up some time.
It’s great to be home! I’m feeling the effects of the racing. I’m moving slowly today… My right ankle is pretty sore.
