Get Your Run on with the Runner’s Clinic at Alpine

Runners experience more than their share of injuries. It’s a sport that pushes the body and reveals potential weak links that show up as pain and reduced performance. That’s why we designed the Runner’s Clinic at Alpine.

Our approach is comprehensive and takes about 1.5 to 2 hours to complete. Here’s how the Runner’s Clinic works:

We begin by interviewing you. That way we can understand your running history, symptoms, and goals. Our questions help guide our working hypothesis about potential problem areas.

Then we videotape you. This portion is individualized. You’ll warm-up to your running pace, and then we videotape you from multiple angles. We’ll zoom in to areas of interest and then zoom out to see the big picture. If there is something we want to see in particular in the foot, for example, we’ll often videotape you walking without shoes on and occasionally have you do a short stint of running without your shoes on.

We downloaded the video into specialized software on the computer. In the meantime, your PT will do a full biomechanical evaluation with extra focus on areas of interest specific to your needs. We look at joint movement, muscle length, muscle strength, and functional movements.

We use the findings of the video and the evaluation to create a program specifically for you. Watching the video together with you is the fun part because often by this point, what we’ve seen and evaluated are confirmed by your running pattern. In essence, all the pieces of the puzzle start coming together and making sense.

Afterward, we give you exercises, drills, and advice to help make changes where you need them.

Notably, you’ll learn a lot about your body, especially if you haven’t done something like this before or watched yourself run. You’ll discover that you can make good changes with the exercises and tips that we recommend. We’ve had numerous customers overcome pain problems and maximize performance with our Runner’s Clinic.

The cost of entire Runner’s Clinic is $199.00. If you are a member of Run Wild Missoula you get a 10% discount.

We offer the Runner’s Clinic at both our clinics. Our south clinic is inside the Peak Health and Wellness Center on Blue Mountain Road, and our north clinic is behind Johnny Carino’s on north Reserve. To schedule, please call us. You can reach our south clinic at 251-2323 and our north clinic at 541-2606.

On a side note, during the Missoula Marathon season, we give a Sunday presentation at the Runner’s Edge on a common runner’s injury, which also focuses on the care and prevention for these specific types of injuries. And each April we give a free presentation at the Good Food Store on the common impairments we see in runners, the ones that are likely lead to injury or to impede your performance. This is scheduled for April 12th at 6 PM.
