Prior to my first heat in the Advanced Men’s challenge on Saturday, my wife and daughters stopped by. Since my oldest daughter is an aspiring CrossFit athlete, I couldn’t wait for her to watch as six women challengers took the floor. We muscled our way to the front of a huge crowd that had gathered for the 2010 Montana CrossFit Winter Challenge.
First, these women rowed 1000 meters. Then they did three rounds each of 105 lb front squats, 10 pull ups, and 25 box jumps (on a 25 inch box mind you).
My daughters watched, and their eyes glazed over. They were mesmerized by what they were witnessing. And quite frankly, so was I. These six women CrossFitters gave it all they had.
CrossFit puts it all together: Multi-joint, multi-muscle, functional, high intense, and varied forms of exercise. In the end, your physiology gets a lot of bang for the buck.
All told, I finished about in the middle, seeing that I was competing in the Advanced level with guys 20 to 30 years younger than me. To say the least, I’m a bit sore this morning. But that’s to be expected after going back to back with two powerhouse work outs in one thrilling day at CrossFit!
